Awqaf & Minors’ Affairs Foundation takes care of 250 mosques for Dh. 44 M.

The Dubai Awqaf & Minors’ Affairs Foundation has allocated some Dh. 44 Million for maintenance and care of the mosques in Dubai.

The Deputy Secretary General of the Foundation, Khalid Rashid Al Thani, has stated to Emaratalyoum that the allocated amount is singled out to take care of 250 mosques in the Emirate to cover their expenses and to pay the salaries of Imams and the costs of running, maintenance and cleaning of the buildings. He has indicated that the mosques care in the Emirate takes place in the framework of the cooperation between the Aqwaf & Minors’ Affaires Foundation and the Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department, Dubai.

Al Thani has detailed the same and stated that the Awqaf Affairs & Minors’ Affairs Foundation has transferred Dh. 22 Million to boost the Waqf fund of the Islamic Affairs. It is decided to transfer further amount in more than Dh. 22 Million during this year. The total amount will reach Dh. 44 Million approximately for mosques care.

He has added that the amount will be applied to cover the expenses of the mosques such as the Imams’ salaries and mosques’ maintenance, care and cleaning. He has pointed out that 250 mosques will benefit from such financial allocations.

He has explained that such work takes place in cooperation between the Awqaf & Minors’ Affairs Foundation and the Charitable Activities Department, Dubai. He has indicated that in the framework of rebirth of the tradition of Waqf to develop and maintain the same. This step comes in boosting of the conditions of the endowers in all fields of good deeds and community service.

Al Thani has continued saying that ythe Foundation applies the Waqf proceed policy aiming to boost the endowers’ conditions and keeping the Waqf asset at the same time. He has indicated that a part of the proceeds is invested to reconstruct the Waqf when its life expectancy is finished. 50% of the total Waqf proceeds are allocated to execute the endowers’ conditions, 40% of the proceeds are invested to reconstruct the Waqf, 5% are allocated as fees in favour of the Foundation against the Waqf supervision and 5% are allocated as provisions for maintaining the Waqf.

Lately, the Foundation has provided a financial support for Dh. 465,000 to the General Department of Punitive & Correctional Establishments, Dubai, including Dh. 274,000 to pay debts of debtor inmates and to meet their needs and Dh. 191,000 to pay the Hajj expenses for some discharged inmates.

Al Thani has stated that the Awqaf & Minors’ Affairs Foundation considers the same as a humanitarian and societal duty all the government service establishments should contributes thereto. He has pointed out that the Foundation continues on launching the humanitarian initiatives. It works to increase, at the coming stage, the value of the provisions it makes in support of the charitable activities.


Duties & Commitments

The law establishing the Awqaf & Minors’ Affairs Foundation has delineated the duties, commitments and procedures of work processes at the Foundation. The Foundation undertakes the legal supervision works on the Awqaf (endowments). It cares about, invests and manages the funds of such endowments. It  applies the proceeds of the same in the limits of the endower’s conditions to the extent materializing the Sharia objectives thereof. In the limits of this law and of the Personal Matters Law, and in the framework of the Islamic Sharia teachings, the Foundation takes the procedures necessary to preserve the properties of the minors and of the persons who are dealt in the same way as the minors as well as it takes care of their affairs. From among the basic duties of the Foundation, it takes care of and keeps the endowments and enumerates and classifies the endowments and maintains the documents creating the same. It manages and develops their properties to the extent guaranteeing the good investment of the same. It launches successful economic projects according to the most modern means and ways of investment of properties. It develops the same according to the rules of the Islamic Sharia.

Also, the endowments , which endower has a condition that they are to be supervised by the Foundation, or when the endower puts no condition regarding supervising the same by any certain person or entity, are to be managed and invested by the Foundation.
